Well, an HDMI cable can also do 120 Hz, but it must be able to do HDMI 2.0 or 2.1. However, it also depends on the notebook or PC, if it can do 60 Hz then it is probably only HDMI 1.4. For more, higher HDMI standards are needed. DisplayPort 1.2 can also only do 60 Hz. For more than 60 Hz you need DisplayPort 1.4.
