Yes it can, but as far as I know there is no maximum number of units as they are not paired, they just take over the channel settings from the main unit.
It has a 2.5 mm jack connector that is smaller than the normal jack connector, such as on the iPhone, so normal headphones do not work. However, there are 4 headsets in the quad pack.
According to http://blog.radiotronics.co.uk/2018..., the T82 are compatible with the T80. If Digitec would provide me with a few T80s, I would of course be happy to test them and post the report here.

And yes... for permanent transmission you will have to build something that keeps the PTT button pressed all the time. iVOX (automatic voice recognition) does not work well in my experience. Also, the thing must always be connected to the USB charger. This works fine, but somehow the device restarts every 5-10 minutes, for some reason.... I recommend a "real baby monitor" as a result.
