When the phone is closed, the display is well protected. Unfortunately I cannot answer the question of waterproofness, I have never tried it.
But overall a very robust phone
The device only works with eSIM. It does not have a slot for a physical SIM.

Not as long as UPC does not support eSim...
no it is not sim locked, I went to Salt store to by me the QR code for the ESim which is in the Motorola phone
As far as I know, the devices are not sim-looked. You can activate the e-Sim with your provider.
Can you try out the smartphone in the store?
The test reports are somewhat divided in many respects.
