The two docking stations are technically identical, the ports should be adapted soon.
The "For Business" models are distinguished by an extended manufacturer's warranty service: Microsoft will send a replacement device if warranty services are requested.
The Microsoft Surface Dock 2 has a total of 6 connections:
- 2x USB-C ports (video-capable, support two 4K monitors at 60 Hz)
- 2x USB-C ports (on the front, for faster charging and higher data transfer rates)
- 2x USB-A ports
- 1x Ethernet connection
- 1x 3.5 mm audio connection
Yes, the Surface Dock 2 is compatible with the Surface Pro 11. You can easily connect two monitors and other peripherals.
When docked, press the Windows+P key combination and then select 'Expand' from the menu on the right-hand side, then all monitors should be active, including Surface.
The main connection is Microsoft Docking Port (proprietary), misleading information published due to the automatic import of product specifications into the database is corrected in the shortest possible time.
This behaviour is unusual and difficult to assess remotely.

No, that should not work. According to Microsoft, the Surface 8 Pro in conjunction with the Docking Station Dual can do 4K at 60 Hz.

Many greetings
The units are identical and differ only in the source of supply. To ensure availability, we purchase from different sources. This is the reason for the difference in price and availability.
The Surface Dock 2 was designed more for the Book series, but in my opinion it is overpriced and outdated since the new Surface Pro's have Thunderbolt.
My recommendation is to buy a Thunderbolt 3 dock.
I bought the Surface Dock 2 so that I could connect my Surface Pro 7 to my two, new monitors Dell P2422H Bundle.
The first time I tried it, I updated everything (software, updates, etc.). Now it always happens that the resolution is interrupted for a few seconds and everything goes black. I have already checked all the cables several times and they are connected correctly. I use "Digitus USB Type C - HDMI" cables.
My question is, is there a solution to this? or could the docking station be defective?
The connector on the Surface always gets extremely hot after about 15 minutes. Is this normal?
I would appreciate any feedback.
No - or yes. I have had similar problems with the Surface Dock since the beginning, regardless of the screen model. With the first one, the screen started to 'shake' from time to time, even with a high-end USB-C cable. In addition, sometimes no signal went out on USB-C: the computer does not recognise a screen and the computer does not notice anything. The first problem with the shaking went away when I replaced the dock. The second problem could only be solved if the dock was disconnected from the power, screen and computer and then reconnected. The second problem can be avoided if the computer is only connected and disconnected from the dock when it is switched on (=screen on & logged in).
Basically, I like the concept that everything is connected with the one, magnetically held, connection. Unfortunately, however, the manufacturer has not understood the idea of a dock at all: I expect from such an expensive dock that you can connect the computer in a closed state and then start it by pressing a button on the dock (without opening the computer). This is a basic function for experienced manufacturers. In addition, a dock must always connect without any problems. Conclusion: Nice try, but absolutely unsuitable for business.
Recently received the Surface Dock 2 and am using it for my Surface Laptop 4 with 2x external monitors (4k 60hz).
On the first try everything worked perfectly. The next day when I turned on the power for my office I had no signal on either screen! Only after plugging them in and out several times did I get signals on the monitors again.
Now I have to go back and forth for about 5 minutes every day until the monitors have signals!
That can't be it!
PS: Use an adapter from DP to USB-C!
Can anyone help me here?
I use the Dock 2 on the Surface Laptop Studio. I don't notice any excessive heating. Could it be that the Surface Pro 8 only heats up because the battery is being charged? Then the Surface can get quite warm and the fan spins up. As soon as the battery is fully charged, the temperature and the fan speed return to normal. It is also important to make sure that the ventilation openings are free so that the hot air can escape unhindered. The fact that the plug gets hot only shows that the Surface Pro 8 "sucks" a lot of power. If this is not due to the activity of the CPU, it is probably the battery.
Hello Digitec Community
I have owned the MS Dock 2 in combination with the MS Surface Book 3 for 2 years. Unfortunately, I always have the problem that one screen does not become active when I switch on or wake up. (Mostly always the one that is not the main screen).
I control the screens via 2 USB-C to HDMI adapters (https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/product/satechi-usb-c-zu-hdmi-20-cm-data-video-adapter-10093784?supplier=406802), and then with HDMI to HDMI to the monitors (both Dell S2421H).
Now I'm thinking of another alternative that can wake up both monitors directly. Without having to reconnect the USB-C or HDMI cable to the dock or the monitor itself every time.
Does anyone know of a working alternative? Because I don't want to spend money on the wrong one and have to invest again.
Thank you in advance for any tips.
