It will work, the connector is the same. However, different Displayport versions were installed. Your 2009 MB Pro will not be able to output an audio signal via the Mini DP, this only came from mid-2010.

According to the specifications of the BluRay player [1], it has a single HDMI output. According to the specifications of the TV [2], it has 4 HDMI connections in addition to several other types. However, it does not have a Mini DisplayPort connection... so you have the wrong cable. Under [3] you will find HDMI-HDMI cables which should fit (I would not recommend an adapter/converter).
