Hey No, the housings have different dimensions (on purpose, money-making?) and new filters have to be used. However, one point that also comes into play when snorkelling is the protection against mechanical damage. The supplied "retaining ring" only partially fulfils the criterion of mechanical protection in my view. I have never taken the Hero 5 into the water without a diving case, but the manufacturer guarantees water resistance, which is why I would have no problems taking it into the water without a diving case.
