Several maps are installed on the Fenix 5x, the Garmin TopoActive Europe is relevant for hiking. With this, hikes can also be planned in Basecamp and played on the watch. BUT: in my opinion, the level of detail of these pre-installed maps is completely insufficient in the mountains (no contour lines, no summit designations, almost no paths). In Graubünden, I have almost no details outside of towns, and in the mountains it sometimes shows me nothing at all. What to do? You can buy the regular topo map from Garmin (expensive) or download an OSM map (free, better than ActiveEurope).Otherwise, SUPER watch!
We no longer sell this product at all. However, prices are based on supply and demand, suppliers and availability of goods.
OSM maps all consist of the same public dataset and are free of charge: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Map_On_Garmin/Download http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ https://www.freizeitkarte-osm.de/ Here you will find many tips on how to install it on your PC and watch: https://www.naviboard.de/
Yes, it does.
I had also thought about it before buying it and then bought it anyway... but I don't regret it! see https://strohmrun.blog/2017/04/10/garmin-fenix-5x-spontane-liebe-mit-daempfern/ In the end, in 5-6 years the technology will be so much more advanced that it will be worth upgrading. But from an environmental point of view...I think it's bad and hope there will be refurbishers who will still manage to change the battery....
There are 21 different languages available. Including our 3 national languages as well as English, Swedish, .... You can download maps from anywhere in the world as long as you have the map file or internet.
No, it is not possible to play the function you want directly from the clock. However, it is possible to operate the music player from the mobile phone (Android or iPhone) with the functions pause, next, back, etc.
When you plug in the watch, it recognises Basecamp as a device and you can simply synchronise the route to the watch. GPX files can also be transferred to the watch... see e.g. https://www.wareable.com/garmin/how-to-add-gpx-routes-to-your-garmin-gps-watch-4470 Did it myself from Basecamp and then went hiking with the watch - really a great product! I am very satisfied.
Yes, water resistance of 10 ATM; corresponds to the test pressure at 100 m water depth.
For messages from Whatsapp etc., the entire text can be called up. In the case of notifications from apps such as newspapers, a short title is displayed, as is usually the case on the lock screen of the smartphone. Only a few emojis (smileys) are displayed, and these are slightly modified. No pictures can be displayed.
This can happen from time to time, as we work with different suppliers and daily prices. :) No catch.
