Cloud compulsion? Hello, is there a cloud constraint with this scanner? (I would not want that)

No, this does not seem to be the case. I scan to a CIFS/SMB share in my network by default. The Internet/Cloud is only added if you want to scan to OneDrive or Mail. Further details should be available at support.brother.com/g/b/manualtop.aspx?c=ch&lang=de&prod=ads....

It seems to be a rock-solid letter scanner. Brother = old school, but heavy duty. My question: Can the scanner read a double-sided letter in one go? scans the front and back at the same time? Or does it read the front side first, as most scanners do, then painstakingly push the sheet backwards to turn it over and then pull it past the scanner again to get the back side. (This not only takes more than twice as long, but also causes paper jams x times). Unfortunately, I could not find any information about this in the Digitec specifications or the Tech Sheet.
