I did not receive the Braun Photo Technik FS 120 but the Reflecta MF5000 (therefore without SilverFast Ai Studio 8). The two devices are identical in construction. Based on the information on the filmscanner.info website, I did various tests with different software and found out that scanner software is generally bad. I tested with the current versions of VueScan and SilverFast Ai Studio and could not find any remarkable differences. Since I primarily scan black and white medium format negatives anyway, the infrared solution does nothing against dust. Post-processing is important and I would never do this in the scanning software -> Photoshop, Gimp, Lightroom, etc.. However, Galaxus offers a different device than the one actually delivered (at least that's how it was for me). Even if the two devices are identical in construction, the software supplied is not. In my opinion, the biggest flaw in the device is the film holder. This should have a glass surface on both sides, as the film sometimes bends up slightly. The sharp area is extremely small. For this reason it is sometimes a bit fiddly to get a sharp scan. However, I have made prints from Hasselblad 503 medium format negatives primarily 50x50cm, which have a wonderful sharpness. The 35mm scans, on the other hand, were not really impressive.
