No, it works without it. Especially useful if you travel a lot in hotels. And most TVs have a USB output near the HDMI. That's how I get power when I need it.
The format of the video type has no influence on the video copy to the TV!
If the iPad can play the video, it will be reproduced on the TV screen.
The quality will never exceed 1080p, which is the adapter's maximum resolution!
The iPad's support for AAC formats for audio should enable 5.1
It's important to understand that the iPad is not a source for the TV!
It's a copy of the image processing done by the iPad's components!

No, this is a lightning connector and you need a USB-C connection. There are a lot of options for you including hubs with slots for memory cards, etc, but a simple alternative for just HDMI would be i-tec USB-C to (HDMI, 15cm)
There’s a question/answer there to say it was tested on an iPad with USB-C
If you think you can use it to play Sony PlayStation 4 on the screen of an iPad or iPhone, for example, this is not possible.
This adapter serves as a video output aid for Apple devices with the Lightning connector.
Hi Fabian, I don't use these apps, but I'm pretty sure that it works, because with this adapter, what you have on the iPad is simply sent to the TV - both picture and sound... Kind regards Marcel
Yes, it works. This has less to do with the cable than with the settings in the Mac operating system. See https://support.apple.com/de-ch/HT202351
