The abbreviation RAMPS stands for Arduino Mega Pololu Shield. This shield was designed to utilize the connections of an Arduino Mega2560 board for 3D printers. RAMPS 1.4 is used in most 3D printer kits. You can also use the board for other Arduino projects, such as plotters, CNC milling machines, plasma cutters, or laser cutters.

5 connections for motor drivers (X, Y, Z, 2*Extruder) of the Pololu or Stepstick type
3 power MOSFETs for extruder heating, heated print bed, and fan
3 independent thermistor connections for the heaters
6 connections for endstop switches or for optical endstops
Exposed expansion ports: I2C, SPI, etc.
Optional SD card connection – SDRamps
Pulse width modulation for all heaters
The motor drivers are mounted on pin headers and can be easily replaced
Connections for two Z-axis motors are available, e.g., Prusa i3 MK2 3D printer
