Why zinc-air technology for hearing aid batteries?
Zinc-air hearing aid batteries have a particularly high energy density and offer an almost horizontal discharge curve. They are therefore the optimum power supply for hearing aids in particular. The air holes in the battery are initially covered with a protective film. This keeps it in a "resting state" until it is needed. The system-related self-discharge of zinc-air batteries with a protective film attached is only around 3 % per year. The foil is removed when the battery is inserted into the hearing aid. After a few seconds of activation, the battery starts to emit current. When activated (protective foil removed), zinc-air batteries have a limited shelf life and should be used as soon as possible.
