Powercolor Devil HDX
PCI-E x1Product details
Normally known as an AMD-exclusive graphics card manufacturer, PowerColor expands its product range with the Devil HDX, the first sound card. This step is undoubtedly successful, as high-quality components combined with a well-thought-out design result in crystal-clear sound that audiophiles and gamers will love and appreciate.
The heart of the sound card is a Cmedia CM8888 audio processor, paired with a Wolfson WM8741 DAC (digital-to-analog converter). Headphone models up to 600 Ohm can be operated by supporting the TI LM 4562 headphone amplifier. In addition, the Devil HDX benefits from interchangeable OP amps that allow the user to create different tones and sound combinations. When it comes to SNR (signal-to-noise ratio), the Devil HDX works at a high level, reaching 124 dB over RCA and 120 dB over 6.3 mm jack.
The Devil HDX uses its own 4-pin Molex power connector instead of drawing power from the expansion slot like other sound cards. This ensures a clean power supply and guarantees interference-free sound. To maximize quality, PowerColor has equipped the sound card with an EMI shield, which not only looks cool but also shields the signals from any interference from other hardware.
The Devil HDX comes with a 7.1 daughter board that delivers true 7.1-channel surround sound with 120 dB SNR outputs. The daughter board is connected using a multi-channel and an HD audio cable. The card itself uses a PCIe port, making it incompatible with conventional PCI slots. It should also be noted that the motherboard and daughter board together will occupy a total of two expansion slots.
The software package is also very comprehensive, including Xear Surround, Xear 3D, Xear SingFX, Xear Audio Brilliant, Xear Dynamic Bass, Xear Smart Volume, and Xear Voice Clarity, providing the user with extensive adjustment options.
