Nintendo figures can now come to life in many new ways as amiibo figures. These are interactive figures that can communicate with specially designed amiibo-compatible games simply by being touched with the Wii U GamePad.
Amiibo can interact with amiibo-compatible games when players touch them with the Wii U GamePad, reading data into the games and saving data on the figure. In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, players can fight with or against their amiibo figures and level them up. They can then take them to another Wii U console to show how they have trained and customized their amiibo figure. Different amiibo-compatible games will utilize amiibo in various ways. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will be the first game to use amiibo. Games like Mario Party 10, Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, and Yoshi's Woolly World are also expected to support amiibo.
