Product details

The MCP23008 allows you to connect 8 I/O pins to your microprocessor. It uses two I2C pins that can be shared with other I2C devices or ICs. Each of the 8 pins can be configured as input, output, input with pull-up, or open drain. Interrupts can also be programmed, eliminating the need for constant polling of the IC.

The IC operates with a voltage range of 2.5 V to 5.5 V, making it suitable for all 3.3 V and 5 V projects. It provides enough current with 20 mA per pin to drive components like LEDs. In combination with a MOSFET, higher loads can be switched.

The MCP23008 comes in a DIP package, making it compatible with breadboards.

With the ADDR0-2 pins, up to 8 unique I2C addresses can be set, allowing for the use of up to 8 of these ICs on a single bus, giving you a total of 64 I/O pins.
