This DVI-D to VGA adapter is the optimal solution if you want to connect older VGA monitors or projectors to modern DVI-D devices, such as laptops, ultrabooks, tablets, or smartphones. It is not suitable for HDCP-protected signals. It supports the conversion of color models from YCC to RGB and RGB to YCC.

Note on HDCP protection: HDMI HDTV signals from Blu-ray and DVD are typically protected by HDCP, especially when playing copy-protected video material. The HDMI standard prohibits the analog output or conversion of HDCP-protected HDTV material into analog HDTV signals. Therefore, such signals will not be output through the analog ports, even when downscaled. This applies to playback from DVD/Blu-ray players as well as from DVDs and Blu-rays on PCs, notebooks, ultrabooks, smartphones, etc.
