The Hanna Instruments Sucrose Refractometer has a measurement range between 0% Brix and 85% Brix. The refractive index of a sample is measured to determine the concentration of a substance within a liquid. It uses the measurement of the refractive index to determine the percentage of sugar in aqueous solutions. Samples are measured after a simple user calibration with deionized or distilled water. Within seconds, the device measures the refractive index of the sample and converts it into % Brix concentration units. The result is automatically displayed in concentration units.

The device features automatic temperature compensation, automatically turns off after 3 minutes of inactivity, and is battery-operated with an energy-saving indicator. It has a two-level LCD display and allows for easy calibration with distilled or deionized water. Setup and storage are straightforward, and it provides quick, precise results in about 1.5 seconds. A sample size of up to 2 metric drops can be analyzed.
