The Semi Pendant Light is globally recognized for its curved, enameled metal, inspired by a quarter circle. The shade of the lamp consists of two quarter circles, which is how it got its name "Semi." Geometric shapes such as circles, triangles, and squares served as the designers' greatest source of inspiration. Originally, the half pendant light was designed in 1968 for an industrial competition by the Danish Academy of Architecture and was created by architecture students Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup. They won the competition with their unique light design.
