The 9602 floor lamp, also known as the "Chinese Hat," was designed by Paavo Tynell in 1938 for the Aulanko Hotel. It features a sturdy brass base, a rattan-woven stem, and an airy lampshade made of canvas or wicker. Finnish industrial designer Paavo Tynell exclusively designed lamps in the 1930s, often using perforated brass as a material and creating very interesting light objects, frequently inspired by organic forms. At the same time, he worked as an entrepreneur in his own company, Taito Oy, and as a lecturer at the Helsinki University of Technology and Arts. He is married to glass designer Helena Tennell, who also works as a lighting designer.
