The foil-shielded AWG28 data lines are twisted pair and provide data transfer rates of up to 5 GBit/s (Super-Speed). The copper wires for power supply (USB bus power) are thicker, rated at AWG24. For cost reasons, other manufacturers sometimes use thinner wires or copper-coated aluminum.
