Gearlab Elite Series PLA Silk is a fully biodegradable polymer with excellent properties that ensure highly efficient printing with extremely good adhesion of printed items to the build beds of 3D printers.

Major advantages of PLA Silk include very good layer cohesion, reduced layer visibility, excellent surface quality with a beautiful satin shine, and low processing shrinkage. It is particularly useful for 3D printers without a closed build chamber and produces consistent and reliable results.

The biodegradable properties mean that PLA will slowly start to decompose when exposed to UV radiation and moisture. If dropped in the sea, it will dissolve completely after six months to two years. Compare this to conventional plastics, where degradation can take up to 500 to 1,000 years.
