Garmin Varia RCT716 Radar

The radar function of the Varia RCT716 is great. The function is almost a must-have, especially for road cyclists and touring cyclists. The usefulness of the dashcam, on the other hand, remains doubtful, as the area of application is too limited. What's more, the cost and weight are double that of the RTL516 version without dashcam.

The RCT716 rear light is the counterpart to the Garmin Varia Radar Vue. Like the latter, it offers an integrated camera with automatic accident detection and automatic drawing as well as an additional distance radar: it warns visually and acoustically of approaching traffic behind and can be paired with a smartphone, compatible bike computers and smartwatches...

... Compared to the RCT716 model sold in Germany, the international version RCT715 has a flashing light mode that is not permitted in this country. Those who do not value the camera function are better off with the RTL516, which is only half as expensive. If you only need a camera but no radar, you can buy the Cyclic Fly6. For many, however, a rear-view mirror on the handlebars would also do.
