Product details
Aurora transmits the altitude, position, and type of the aircraft to manned aircraft equipped with Flarm. The transmitter reduces the risk of collisions between drones and manned aircraft. It is suitable for multicopters and other UAVs that can carry a payload of at least 65 grams.
In just a few years, civilian drones have become powerful tools in industry, security, rescue operations, and other predominantly commercial applications. In aviation, such drones are referred to as UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles). These remotely controlled aircraft share the airspace at low altitudes with manned aviation, which poses risks. The Flarm Aurora system is a very lightweight transmitter housed in a compact case. Among other things, Aurora transmits the altitude, position, and type of the aircraft. This information can be received by more than 60,000 manned aircraft equipped with Flarm, allowing UAVs to be detected from a great distance. This enables the pilot of the manned aircraft to adjust their flight path to avoid dangerous approaches. The avoidance rule remains unchanged: the drone operator is still required to avoid manned aircraft.
Due to the low weight of the transmitter, it can be carried by all drones that can handle a payload of 65 grams (including USB cable and antenna). Power can be supplied either via a rechargeable battery (5 - 28 V DC with JST-GH connector) or via USB-C (5 V DC) from the drone. Powering through the drone has the advantage that the transmitter only transmits its position when the drone is powered on, eliminating the need for an additional battery. In addition to Flarm, Aurora also integrates a transmitter for Direct-Broadcast Remote ID signals in accordance with international standards ASTM F3411-9 and ASD-STAN prEN 4709-002. Aurora meets the relevant EN/ETSI standards.
