The VAX00102 is backward compatible with all lower resolutions. A switch allows for a downgrade to HDMI 1.3/1.4, which can improve compatibility with some older HDMI devices on an HDMI 2.0 TV. The TV audio can be output through the digital outputs of the audio extractor. With the audio mode switch, you can specify which audio format the HDMI source outputs when multiple audio formats are available. This allows the HDMI source to deliver 5.1 sound when connected to a stereo TV, for example. The switch has three settings: Auto/Bypass: The output is determined by the best audio format supported by the connected HDMI device. HD audio or 7.1 is also possible this way. 2.0: The output is in stereo on all outputs. 5.1: The output is in 5.1 audio format (only if a 5.1 audio track is available). Note: HD audio formats like Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD can only be transmitted via HDMI. Stereo (LPCM 2.0) or 5.1 audio (Dolby Digital/AC-3 or DTS) can be transmitted via SPDIF Toslink or Coaxial, depending on the source material. The volume must be adjusted at the source or on the sound system, not on the TV.
