Zinc-air hearing aid batteries for cochlear implants
Zinc-air hearing aid batteries for cochlear implants have a particularly high energy density and offer an almost horizontal discharge curve for an optimum power supply.

The air holes in the battery are initially covered with a protective film. This keeps it in a 'resting state' until it is needed. The system-related self-discharge of zinc-air batteries with a protective film attached is only around 3 % per year. The foil is removed when the battery is inserted into the hearing aid. After a few seconds of activation, the battery begins to emit current. When activated (protective foil removed), zinc-air batteries have a limited shelf life and should be used as soon as possible.
