Product details
Polyactide (PLA) is a polymer consisting of lactic acid molecules which, in simple terms, are obtained by the fermentation of e.g. glucose. Currently we have PLA Filament 1.75mm and PLA Filament 3mm in our assortment. When choosing the filament diameter, please consider the specification of your 3D printer or the extruder used. These standard filament sizes are suitable for most common 3D printers, but there are manufacturers who require a proprietary diameter. Whether PLA filament is the optimal choice for the 3D object to be printed depends on various factors such as the intended use and equipment of the 3D printer. For PLA Filament a heating bed is advantageous, but not absolutely necessary. We recommend using a cooler when processing PLA Filament. Compared to ABS filament, PLA filament on an optimally calibrated 3D printer allows finer structures and details than ABS filament, has less tendency to warp and has much more pleasant odour characteristics during processing. In contrast, PLA filament has a lower stability and heat tolerance than ABS filament. In summer heat, PLA objects can deform. PLA is basically biodegradable as a starting material. However, the final product contains pigments and additives. Therefore, PLA filament waste and objects made with it should not be composted.
