The barrel tip of the 849 fountain pen is made of glossy black plastic and fits perfectly in the hand. The barrel is made of aluminium and has a hexagonal shape. The clip is made of flexible steel. The nib tip is made of solid stainless steel and has a design with an unmistakable emblem. The Caran d'Ache isotype is engraved on the button. The cap can be replaced at the top of the barrel. The fountain pen is painted fluo orange.
