These cartridges are primarily made of plastic, which allows for local recycling and local energy recovery. When recycling occurs on-site, the environmental impact associated with transporting the cartridges is reduced. To support local recycling and energy recovery, Canon has engraved a plastic code on each cartridge. Canon large format ink cartridges are suitable for local recycling and local energy recovery facilities.
