The neutral gray half of this graduated filter has a transmittance of 50% (1 f-stop), darkening the subject area by one f-stop without altering the color. This filter is ideal for situations where the sky is too bright compared to the landscape, helping to maintain good cloud detail and prevent the blue sky from fading due to overexposure.

B+W Graduated Gray Filters are commonly used in landscape photography to avoid overexposing the sky while keeping the ground correctly exposed. The effect of this filter cannot be effectively replicated through electronic image processing, as image information is typically lost in overexposed areas.

Each filter features a half neutral gray tint with a smooth transition to the neutral filter half. The rotatable mount allows for precise horizontal alignment when the filter is securely attached. The glass substrate of the B+W Gray Filter 702 is a plane-parallel ground and finely polished filter disk, ensuring long-lasting high optical quality. The gradient is specially vapor-deposited using thin-film technology. The dark edge area of the filter has a value of - 702 + 2 f-stops (25% transmission).

The gray graduated filters are equipped with a high-quality MRC coating. MRC (Multi Resistant Coating) filters have an MC layer that ensures high transmission and maximum anti-reflection. This coating eliminates disturbing stray light, resulting in more brilliant colors and higher contrasts. Due to the low residual reflection, MRC effectively prevents ghost images caused by back reflection from the sensor surface. Additionally, MRC enhances the filter's scratch resistance due to its increased layer hardness, preserving high optical quality. MRC is also dirt and water repellent, making cleaning easier.
