Die Erstinstallation des Farbdruckers erfolgt sehr flott und durch die gute Anleitung sollten hier keine Probleme auftauchen. Die Druckqualität selbst ist ebenso gut, wobei das Gerät eher für kleine Büros oder die Heimanwendung geeignet ist. Zudem arbeitet der Brother recht flott.

Das Arbeitstempo ist mit seinen 16 Seiten die Sekunde nicht wirklich schnell. Im Betrieb gibt der Brother HL 3040CN zu laute Geräusche von sich. Dafür bietet er eine gute Druckqualität sowie einen ausgefeilten Treiber an. Der Drucker ist sehr Stromhungrig.
Günstig im Anschaffungspreis, allerdings ist die Qualität der Grafik- und Fotoausdrucke nur ausreichend. Beim Lichtbeständigkeitstest verblassen Rottöne deutlich.
