A village inhabited by unyielding Gauls continues to resist the intruder. Life is not easy for the Roman legionaries stationed in the fortified camps of Babaorum, Aquarium, Laudanum, and Kleinbonum. Life is peaceful in the small Armorican village, where the residents steadfastly go about their usual activities. The two heroes, Asterix and Obelix, go wild boar hunting, the blacksmith and fishmonger argue fiercely as usual, and the chief is majestically carried on his shield across the village square.

One day, Asterix and Obelix return from their hunt to find their village in flames and plundered by the Romans. The two set out, accompanied by their loyal companion Idefix, to rescue the villagers. On their journey, they visit Normandy, Greece, Helvetia, Egypt, and finally Rome to free the villagers from Caesar's clutches.
