    Simply WOW

Simply WOW, what a difference to the standard sound card built into the motherboard. The installation is easy, but the configuration in the DAW and the samplers was a bit tricky. The proof of the pudding is in the eating... With 24 bit and 96 Khz a latency of unbelievably low 0.67 ms, there is really nothing to complain about. The software and drivers, which can be downloaded from ESI's website, work perfectly with Windows 11. I have no idea how a professional sound card is constructed and what the data is like, but this one from ESI looks suspiciously professional to me.
The sound card has two outputs and two inputs for instruments, such as midi keyboard, bass guitar and electric guitar, which can be connected directly with 6.3 mm jack cables. I have connected the subwoofer and active monitor speakers to one output, the midi keyboard is connected directly to the PC via USB, and works in this way in conjunction with the sound card and DAW. The general volume control runs via the PC control, I have set the Maya sound card to standard and this works perfectly. But the volume with Presonus Studio One 6.0 I have to control separately, this is simply done with the control that came with the Makie subwoofer. The Makie subwoofer is connected to the sound card with a stereo 6.3 mm jack cable, and the Makie subwoofer is connected to two monitor speakers from the same manufacturer that are on the office desk. Together they produce a very good, neutral sound, the bass strength can be adjusted with the same Makie control. I had to mix the output of Presonus Studio One with the supplied software from ESI to reduce the volume; and with the Makie control I can adjust it. Now everything runs perfectly and as good as never before.

5 stars for the price/performance ratio of Maya44 eX!

I am satisfied with the performance of the Maya 44 eX and can recommend it. The ESI ASIO driver "Win 10" is fast and stable. With buffer values of 64 samples and 44.1 KHz, the latency in Cubase 11 is 1.451 ms. Although I have found in practice that I have to use a buffer size of 128 samples on my computer, the latency is still only about 2.9 milliseconds.

I can't say if there is a difference in sound quality between the MOTU 828 Mk III Hybrid and the MAYA44 eX, but at least it's not very audible. I've been using MOTU for years, but I wanted to try the PCIe audio interface because I've read so many times about its benefits. Maybe I will choose RME in the future because the connection possibilities are much greater.

If you are happy with 4 input and output channels, you will be happy with the Maya 44 EX. It masters its task impeccably.
