Why headphones make for better ear muffs

Who needs stupid hats or those strange ear warming thingies when there are over-ear headphones? Not only do they keep your ears nice and toasty, they also caress them with your favourite tunes.

With plummeting temperatures and increasing snowfall, you gotta wrap up warm! A thick jacket, fluffy scarf and a woolly hat. Hang on a minute – scrap the last one! You know what’s much better than hats and ear muffs? Over-ear headphones! Not only will your ears be enjoying premium sound quality but premium snugness. Noise cancelling models are particularly well insulated – not only against ambient sound but also against the cold. Open models will allow you to hear what’s going on around you but are not great sources of warmth.

Provided we’re not in for an ice age-style Siberian cold spell like in 2012, over-ear headphones make for perfect multifunctional ear warmers – except, maybe, if your hair is thinning. Then those days are probably over…

A few suggestions on how to protect your ears from the cold yet enjoy the goosebumps that amazing music is giving you.

As a child, I wasn't allowed to have any consoles. It was only with the arrival of the family's 486 PC that the magical world of gaming opened up to me. Today, I'm overcompensating accordingly. Only a lack of time and money prevents me from trying out every game there is and decorating my shelf with rare retro consoles.
