Now ready for order: the new "Nikkor Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1" lens from Nikon
With a weight of 350 grammes, the "Nikkor Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1" is designed for trips with light luggage.
Nikon is launching a new lens for the mirrorless Z camera system. The manufacturer describes the «Nikkor Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1» as a travel all-round lens. It will be available individually or as a kit including the Z5II camera from the end of January.
The lens: «Nikkor Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1»
With its low weight of 350 grammes and compact design, the lens is aimed primarily at beginners and ambitious amateur photographers. The focal length range of 24 to 105 millimetres allows you to shoot landscapes and architecture as well as portraits and moderate telephoto subjects.

The unusually short focusing distance for this class is striking: 20 centimetres at 24 millimetres and 28 centimetres at 105 millimetres enable a maximum magnification of 1:2. This makes the lens suitable for detail-orientated close-ups without the need for a special macro lens.
The lens speed is comparatively low at f/4 to f/7.1. This is a consequence of the compact design. The optical construction consists of twelve lenses in ten groups, including an ED lens and two aspherical elements, which are intended to reduce optical errors.
Nikon promises that the STM stepper motor for the autofocus works very quietly and cannot be heard in video recordings. The housing is sealed against dust and splash water, but as usual Nikon does not specify an IP protection class. The filter thread measures 67 millimetres.
As a set with Nikon Z5II
The Nikon Z5II was launched on the market in 2025. It is equipped with a CMOS sensor in 35 mm format, which enables photos with an effective resolution of 24.5 megapixels. Light sensitivity ranges from ISO 100 to 64,000 in the standard range and can be extended up to ISO 204,800.
A processor is used for image processing, which achieves a continuous shooting rate of up to 30 frames per second. Provided you use the electronic shutter and JPEG format. The maximum continuous shooting rate with a mechanical shutter is around 14 frames per second.
In-camera image stabilisation is designed to reduce camera shake in freehand shots. The autofocus system is based on a hybrid method with 273 focusing areas. In terms of exposure modes, you can choose between programme, aperture priority, shutter priority and manual control. Exposure is measured via the image sensor and covers a range from -4 to +17 EV.
For video recording, the Z5II offers 4K resolution at up to 60 full frames per second (with 1.5x crop). Two SD card slots with support for UHS-II are integrated. The magnesium housing is weatherproof and measures around 13 × 10 × 7 centimetres with a weight of around 700 grammes without lens.
My colleague David tested the camera:
Feels just as comfortable in front of a gaming PC as she does in a hammock in the garden. Likes the Roman Empire, container ships and science fiction books. Focuses mostly on unearthing news stories about IT and smart products.
Presentations of select new products at Digitec and Galaxus. Tested, to the point, no marketing blah.
