A Tech Affair episode 149: Roasted CPUs, plugged leaks and hardcore WoW
Asus shoots itself in the foot PR-wise when high voltages on its motherboards destroy processors. We explain what exactly happened. We also talk about Apple's culture of secrecy.
After new AMD Ryzen 7 CPUs started melting down in rows, nobody knew exactly why at first. As it turns out, motherboards from Asus are to blame for the misery. But that's not all: the hasty and unfortunate reaction of the Taiwanese manufacturer is causing red heads and major YouTube channels in the hardware scene are up in arms.
Apple is also up in arms, namely against employees who are spilling the beans. The Californians are trying to plug such leaks using sophisticated methods. One source of various software rumours has lost his job as a result.
Microsoft has won - at least for the time being. The EU regulators approve the billion-euro deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard. But there are still more hurdles to overcome before the takeover becomes a reality.
