Is the backpack suitable for day hikes? Does it still have room for bits and pieces when the Camera Cube Large is used?
For hikes with photo stuff, I would recommend a Shimoda backpack. They are also suitable for hiking. This is a travel backpack that is not designed for hiking.
Depends on what kind of hike. I have worn the backpack on longer hikes and it felt good. However, I think for a rigorous real mountain hike, a backpack designed for that would be better.
This is still a photo backpack, even though it has many features for day trips.
It certainly has room for odds and ends. Water bottles, for example, can be stored well on the side and there is also plenty of space in the front compartments. You can also take a thin jacket or jumper with you. However, if you want to take a whole spare set with you in addition to the Cube Large, it might be a bit cramped.
By the way, Peak Design has good packing videos on their YouTube channel, in which they show what is possible. This gives a good idea.
