In the photos it is almost always mounted on the wall, i.e. on the side. Another large retailer lists it as a wall-mounted luminaire only, on the Philips site it's not really clear.

I have installed two Phoenix as ceiling lamps in a room. The light intensity is limited. The installation was problem-free.
