Would the lens be compatible with the Nikon D5200? And how would the image quality be for mountain panoramas in the Himalayas? Would there be another alternative?

Get it for this price. Fits Nikon D5200. I can only agree with Walkerit's statements about the lens because of the lack of a picture bar.

I use it on a D3200. I am actually satisfied with it. Due to the lack of image stabiliser, you quickly have to rely on a tripod for longer exposure times.
Since the lens has an F bayonet, it will fit your camera. I cannot say whether the combination is optimal. However, you can easily google this in the relevant forums.
