Will this docking station also be compatible with the new MacBook Air (on sale from 7 Nov 2018) - not only technically but also in terms of product design (size)?

Unfortunately, the new MacBook Air is not yet available, so this cannot be said with certainty. It is best to ask the manufacturer directly. They may know more.
