Why only? Why do they still use mini-USB D today? I had the keyboard in my shopping cart until I saw the choice of connection cable. Unsuitable for custom cables or unnecessary effort to extend with unsightly adapters.
This design decision by the manufacturer may seem dubious, I fully agree. However, the question of why should rather be addressed directly to manufacturers:
