The background noise is audible when the environment is louder, but this should not affect the intelligibility of speech in telephone conversations. Unfortunately, I do not know whether the microphone itself cancels anything out.

What does loud mean? I have not had any complaints about loud background noise. However, if you are standing next to a loud source such as a jackhammer or screaming children, the person you are talking to will probably hear it well.
