It looks to me like you only need one via Bluetooth. This means that if the mouse runs out of power, you have to charge it and can't do anything with it during that time. To charge it, you have to put it on the dock.
With the other, you can take the cable out of the dock and plug it directly into the mouse and continue "working".
But I'm not sure and would be happy to be corrected.
