Unfortunately, the Lenovo signet always appears briefly on my screen and then it goes into standby mode. My lap top is an Acer Apire 5, is the screen not compatible?

The screen is compatible with your Acer Aspire 5 as it works independently of the operating system and connects via USB-C.
The problem you are describing is probably a display settings issue and not a compatibility issue. Check the following points:
- Make sure your Acer Aspire 5 has a USB-C port with DisplayPort support. Not all USB-C ports support video transmission.
- Check the display settings on your laptop. The monitor may be set to duplicate mode instead of extended mode. Change the setting via the display options of your operating system.
- Make sure you are using a high quality USB-C cable that supports data transfer and video. The cable should have been supplied with the monitor.
- Try restarting the monitor and reconnecting.
If the problem persists, I recommend that you check the compatibility of your specific Acer model with external monitors on the Acer website or consult our Community.
