To my great astonishment, the Core version does not come with paddles! Even though they are shown on picture no.3... I realise that there is a non-core version and a component pack, but I assumed that add-ons would be included and not an essential part of the Elite controller.

= with the Elite Controller in the Core version, the additional buttons below the controller cannot be used! That's cheeky. Nobody should come to me with the argument that it is visible on picture 8. Because according to the picture, the directional pad and the mini stick shouldn't be included either.

Hello, thank you for your message. The contents are described in detail on the 8th picture, these are the official pictures provided by the manufacturer. 
The purpose of showing a picture with the paddles on the back is to make it clear that the paddles can be added later.
