The technical data for the memory states: 6400+(OC)/ 6200(OC)/ 6000(OC)/ 5800(OC)/ 5600(OC)/ 5400(OC)/ 5200/ 5000/ 4800MHz for the clock frequencies. What does overclocking (OC) refer to at the higher values? If I install 6400 MHZ RAM do I have to overclock anything or does that mean if I install 6000 MHz RAM I can theoretically overclock it to 6400?

The standard RAM clock specified by AMD for Ryzen 7000 CPUs is 5200. Anything above that is OC.

With RAM, however, OC can be relatively simple nowadays. Intel created XMP and AMD created EXPO for this purpose. The manufacturers store a profile in the RAM that makes the necessary settings in the BIOS of the mainboard if it can do more than the standard clock. You simply have to activate this profile via the BIOS.

No matter which memory you use, the board even offers the possibility of 6400+(OC). This means that more than 6400 would also be possible.
But... The ASUS homepage lists compatible memories, what they are called and how many modules you can use at once to reach these values. Of course, they haven't tested every memory in the world, but there are a lot of variants. I would stick to these.
But honestly... With AMD, the sweet spot is 6000 MHz. Much more doesn't make a difference and you don't notice it anyway (measurement tolerance). What you do notice are very good timings for the memory (these are also on the ASUS page). I would look to get 6000s with very sharp timings or a very good 6400 memory. If it doesn't run stable at 6400, you can set it to 6000 and adjust the timings a little better than the default.
There are plenty of memory comparison videos on YouTube.
G.Skill is highly recommended. But, as with a processor, it's always a bit of luck whether everything runs properly in the OC range.

I agree, the memory is a hit or miss regarding this board. I bought Corsair sticks and it was stable only at the base clock speed. With a set of 6000 Kingston, I have a stable system at 5600MHZ.

First install the very latest bios! Otherwise the processor will burn out. I would be very careful with overclocking.

I bought this board and am not satisfied with it. As soon as I configure the memory at full speed, it runs very unstable and has blue screens all the time. Memory is currently running at 4800MHz so that the PC runs stably with this board.

- Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X
- Memory: G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB

I suspected that the problems were coming from the memory and replaced it.

In the meantime, I ordered the AsRock X670E Taichi (AM5, AMD X670E, E-ATX) and hope that this board will run better.
