Question about Satechi Per USB-C Desktop Charger
The product documentation is ambiguous regarding what devices can be plugged into the 1st USB-C port (90W output power). On the manufacturer website, the documentation says it only accepts high-power devices like laptops, but will not accept a simple smartphone. What are the actual limitations of the first port? Can it charge smartphones/tablets or will it damage them?
No problem, you can charge your phone with both USB-C ports. USB-C PD standard establishes a handshake between the charger and the device and the device basically tells the charger what voltage and current it needs.. If the phone does not support PD handshake, then the charger will limit itself by default to 5V, which what basic phones need.
I do not see where you saw this on the manufacturer Website. I read it myself
The PowerDelivery standard specify a range of Voltages (the charged devices will automatically "ask" for more thant 5V) then the curent is physically regulated by the device
you can charge your low power device on both USB-C PD port but one will charge only *UP TO* 18W the other *UP TO* 90W
I tried with mine and my phone charges on Both ports and my computer only on the 90W port.
