Someone here wrote that - "two usb ports are needed" - how should I understand this ? It needs two USB ports to run ?

Exactly. The cable is divided into two USB ports, both of which must be connected to the PC.

But since you can plug the mouse into the keyboard, you won't lose any connections :)
