This is Dolby Headphone Virtual Surround ("surround" via stereo speakers - see Wikipedia or Google).

My question: Is it any good or would it be better to invest in a real surround headset? I already have a stereo headset, can I somehow try it out with software?

Audio is transmitted via a TRS jack. In other words, the headset only has 2 channels (left and right), so no real surround sound.
