Regarding the used & tested version: I think there's a big difference between a monitor that's been looked at briefly then returned and one that, for example, has been powered on for 2 years in an office. The latter one will have a shorter lifespan of the components. Is there any way to know how old your "used & tested" monitor is?

Usually you can extend the warranty for used&tested products, this is what I usually do, because I think it is unfair that all used&tested products only get 12 months warranty. What also would be possible, directly contact Dell for any warranty claims. This is especially good if the screen still is covered by Dell warranty. The only way to check how long the warranty coverage is, would be to use the Dell service tag and check on the Dell website.
