Question about Microsoft Xbox One X

Question. The console is designed for 4K 60 fps. However, I have a 1440p WQHD, i.e. 2k screen with 165 Hz. Can I play it like that or do I have to select 4K. In other words, do I have a choice of resolution settings?

In case the question is still open, it has now been announced that the OneX can also output the image natively in 1440p!

Addendum: Microsoft has officially announced that 1440p (2K) will not yet be possible at launch. However, this will be added very soon as an update.
Happy gaming to you all. :)

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that the console directly outputs a 1440p signal if you have such a monitor.

So it will not output 1080p and upscale.

That is not true. It can't at this point, but it is in the planning stages. Read the tweet by Kevin Gammil (Manager XBox One) from 1 November 2017:

"I was informed by the graphics team today that 1440 resolution support is coming soon and is not yet implemented."

This will be implemented later with a software update. Date still unclear.

Good day Smurf90
I would also be very interested to know how the Xbox one X will handle a resolution of 1440p... Have already done a lot of research on the net about this myself, but haven't been able to find a reliable answer yet. Have you perhaps already found out more?
What is certain is that you can connect the Xbox One X to such a monitor and play games on it... My guess is as follows. The Xbox One X is capable of supersampling (it is calculated in 4k and a full HD image is output. This results in a picture with less stippling). Your monitor will then upscale this image to 1440p. Or it will directly output a Full HD picture (e.g. if you can select this as a mode in the game, like in Tomb Raider, so that you can enjoy a smoother experience). This is then also scaled up from your monitor. How well the upscaling works depends on the monitor. I highly doubt that the Xbox one X can send a 1440p signal (but I personally hope that it can).

Hi there, the Xbox One X recognises itself which settings would be good.

The Xbox usually only supports standard resolutions and will only offer you (720p), 1080p or 4K as output. Your monitor (I assume it is a monitor) will then bring it up to its resolution itself.
